It’s not just about seeing double.
There are a number of causes that can lead to disturbances in your vision apart from diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma and age related macular degeneration.
- Retinal Detachment & Retinal Tear – this sudden onset condition can cause loss of vision immediately. Some of the causes of this is due to being in an accident or banging your head severely hard. This has to be diagnosed very urgently and patients must be referred to a hospital within 48 hours.
- Retinitis Pigmentosa – this is a congenital condition that is present in 1 in 4000 people.
- Keratoconus – this inherited condition is present in 1 in 1000 people. This is where the cornea is cone shaped and is treatable. It is present in patients that suffer from Downs Syndrome & Marfans Syndrome. It can also be present in patients that don’t suffer from these syndromes. The normal age to become aware of this is when a teenager complains of blurred vision.
